In the wild bees live in hollows in trees and any other suitable home. Modern beekeeping uses hives with removable frames. There are many different hive available to bee keepers, we use the popular UK National Hive. Because of the prolific strain of bee we keep, we use a ‘deep’ national.

The hive is split into various parts and the all have their own name and use, the picture below show a complete national hive, assembled and constructed with traditional ‘Cedar’ although you can purchase these made of high density polystyrene.
